Chamber musicians dedicated to renaissance and 20th century composition.

The William & Mary Schola Cantorum: Welcome!

We are The William & Mary Schola Cantorum, an entirely student-directed chamber choir dedicated to renaissance and twentieth century composition. Modeled in part on the university chapel choirs of Oxford and Cambridge, our ensemble sings from a broad, varied repertoire of sacred and secular music.

The Psalms of David have long been a quintessential source of composers in all ages. With an enormous stock of beautiful poetry , it is no surprise to see a multitude of writers use this Old Testament book as a bases for their compositions. Each new name adds his own particular color to the text which can be traced form one generation to the next. The Schola will spend the upcoming Spring Term rehearsing and performing Psalm compositions from the past 500 years in Western History. Performances are held in two historic, austere, and acoustically stunning structures in the area: the Wren Chapel at the College of William & Mary and the Bruton Parish Church in Colonial Williamsburg.

So whether you’ll be joining us as a singer, a concertgoer, or supporter, we hope to see you soon!
